FIRST ‘MAGIC CIRCLE’ LAW FIRM JOINS THE GOOD + FAIR EMPLOYERS CLUB
We are delighted to announce that Clifford Chance has become the first law firm to join the Good + Fair Employers Club, our coalition of the UK’s best employers of young people.
Counted among the so-called ‘Magic Circle’ of the five most prestigious law firms with London headquarters, Clifford Chance takes its place alongside fellow ‘Good + Fair’ members including Google, Accenture, Santander, BT, Greene King and the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme. Toby Horner, Early Talent Acquisition Manager, UK, at Clifford Chance, said:
‘We’re proud that Clifford Chance is the first law firm to join the Good + Fair Employers Club. It is vital that the legal sector is represented among such an exciting and progressive group of top employers to share best practice and progressive strategies. We look forward to joining these important conversations and we’re committed to playing our part to drive positive change.’

PULL UP A CHAIR! Clifford Chance will join all our Good + Fair sessions from now on. We particuarly look forward to welcoming them in person at our Winter Leadership Lunch in January 2023, at the Groucho Club in Soho, London (Photos from our Autumn Leadership Lunch in September 2022, at the Union Club in Soho, London)
Tanya de Grunwald, founder of the Good + Fair Employers Club, said:
“I am delighted that Clifford Chance has joined the Good + Fair Employers Club. The decision cements their reputation as the UK’s most outward-looking law firm, as the move demonstrates their appetite for learning from employers in other sectors, and sharing their own successes as widely as possible.
“From our conversations, it is clear that they recognise the power and potential of collaboration, especially during turbulent times. As employers look ahead to the complex demands of a post-pandemic world (filled with fast-paced change and a cost-of-living crisis) the challenges have never been greater – and the stakes have never been higher.
“At the same time, early careers professionals are tasked with competing for the best and brightest talent. So it is heart-warming to see them setting aside any sense of rivalry, and instead confirming they share our belief that high standards, strong values and clear leadership matter more now than ever. Collaboration is key to making progress and raising standards for everyone – and in tough times, coming together is even more important.”
What is the Good + Fair Employers Club? Representatives from our member organisations meet regularly to discuss the burning issues affecting early careers teams, and share challenges and solutions in a collaborative environment, where everyone can speak freely. Spanning a wide range of organisations, our club is proud to host and facilitate cross-sector conversations where the best and boldest ideas are discussed and shared, to help all our member organisations to move forward with confidence. The decision to join the Good + Fair Employers Club caps a year in which Clifford Chance has been heralded for ground-breaking work on diversity, equity and inclusion – not just internally, but for the legal sector more broadly, including these innovations:
- Publishing their hiring stats for the most recent recruitment year in the form of an animation to give greater transparency to those looking to apply to Clifford Chance
- A new suite of global virtual internships, designed to democratise access to the legal profession and provide high quality learning opportunities to all. To date, they have seen nearly 115,000 enrolments globally since launching in 2020.
- Developing a social mobility work experience programme ‘ACCESS’ into a two-year development programme inclusive of 12 different components – each focussed on personal and professional development. The final step is the opportunity to secure a place on the ACCESS SPARK programme and ultimately a Training Contract
- Being recognised as the Employer of Choice for LGBTQ+ students interested in a career in law (CIBYL 2022). In 2021/22, 28% of Clifford Chance’s training contract hires identified as LGBTQ+ (compared with 8% of people in higher education identifying as LGBTQ+). Clifford Chance say their ACCEPT conference is core to them identifying the very best LGBTQ+ talent.
Welcome to the club, Clifford Chance. We’re delighted to have you on board!
